Health care heroes: ‘I have a job to do. Nothing will stop me.’
Every morning at 8:30 am, Advocate Aurora Health leaders gather for a safety huddle. At Advocate Condell Medical Center, the safety huddle starts with a moment of reflection led by one of the staff chaplains.
Earlier this week, the Rev. Karam Azab offered this reflection to honor those who have responded sacrificially to the COVID-19 pandemic:
“In dealing with such mighty disease, we continue to be warriors. For warriors, winning the battle is a small gain in compare to the memories of how it was won. Great wars were won not by the might of weapons, but by those who were committed in valor and heroism.
“Every day, I walk by these isolation rooms. I see these mighty warriors – nurses, technicians and physicians – walking into these rooms with such courage. I hear their unspoken words clearly say, ‘I have a job to do. Nothing will stop me.’
“Thank you for all you do. Thank you for being warriors.”
