Health care heroes: Staying well-fed

Kaitlyn Polfus, medical/surgical RN at Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area in Marinette, WI, knows just how important it is to keep our hardworking team members fed. She created a post on Facebook, asking friends and family to donate to “adopt a health care worker.”

From several generous donations, Polfus was able to bring in coffee from a local establishment on multiple occasions, pizza and break room snacks to share with her fellow team members.

One of the donors was fellow nurse Carrie Anderson. Polfus and Anderson worked together to purchase and distribute the treats with the proceeds. And another Medical/Surgical nurse, Cindy Schahczinski, used her own money to purchase and distribute food to team members.

House Supervisor Jennifer Thomas was so inspired by Polfus’s idea that she did the same thing – sought donations from family and friends in order to brighten her coworkers’ days with delectable goodies.

“Throughout this whole ordeal,” she said, “knowing that even for a few minutes, our staff was able to take a small break, regain some energy from the snacks or drinks, and regroup enough to carry on with the rest of their shift means the world to me!”

With the donations, Thomas was able to supply several carts with snacks almost every day since the end of March.
