This COVID-19 survivor plans to get the vaccine
The 49-year-old New Franken, Wisconsin man’s sense of smell is still off even six months after recovering from the disease.
Overall, however, Dan Chervenka is grateful to have experienced mild symptoms and recovered relatively quickly – an outcome he attributes to his active lifestyle.
“I was doing a lot of cardio to get ready for a triathlon, so I was in pretty good shape,” he said. “I really think that made a difference in how quickly I bounced back.”
The weekend following his diagnosis, Chervenka was scheduled to do a virtual triathlon. He felt so well, he got up that Saturday and completed the 5K walk, 18-mile bike ride and quarter-mile swim. He says the biggest symptom he noticed was a change in his smell – which he’s still experiencing to some degree.
Chervenka visited his primary care physician in Green Bay, Dr. Erich Quidzinski, for his annual exam in November. Chervenka’s going to follow Dr. Quidzinski’s advice to get the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s available to him, after others who are more high-risk.
