Why more men are choosing butt lift surgery
If you aren’t naturally gifted like J.Lo, many trainers will tell you that squats or lunges can help you achieve the perfect derriere. This advice is not strictly for the ladies either. Men too are looking for a little boost in the caboose as well. In fact, a recent growing trend is male buttocks augmentation or butt lift surgery.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that butt lift procedures for men are on the rise by 182 percent from 1997 to 2012. Apparently, that perfect posterior is not so easy to achieve through exercise alone. Many men who opt for this procedure have spent countless workouts trying to add bulk to their glute muscles to no avail.
How is that muscled bum achieved through surgery? The key is in the filler. Traditionally, butt lift procedures involve hard silicone implants. A new trend in plastic surgery has surfaced, however, that involves transferring body fat. This procedure requires liposuction of body fat, usually from the flanks or abdomen, to be injected into the buttocks.
“Which procedure is chosen depends on the individual’s body shape, size and wishes,” explains Dr. Niki Christopoulos, board certified plastic surgeon on staff at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill.
Dr. Christopoulos says that fat transfer is growing in popularity because its benefits are twofold. “First, liposuction is performed in areas of the body where there is excess body fat, and then this is transferred to the buttocks to create a fuller more proportionate look,” she says. “Secondly, you are using one’s own fat, which tends to give a more natural and balanced look and avoids the need for a permanent implant.”
For some patients, silicone implants can still be a more viable option. For example, “Silicone implants are used in patients with little fat available for transfer,” explains Dr. David Shifrin, board certified plastic surgeon with Advocate Medical Group in Chicago. Additionally, the results achieved with implants are more predictable generally since the body doesn’t keep all of the fat transferred to the buttocks.
Whichever way you decide to go, Dr. Christopoulos recommends finding the proper physician. “Make sure you schedule your consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon whose training and expertise will help guide you through the consultation and pick the best procedure for your body,” she says.

Butt lifts on the rise (pun intended) by 182 percent from 1997 to 2012 is actually astonishing. Men should not be considering such extreme body augmentations unless they are personal trainers/underwear models. Thanks for the great article Nikki!
Hi, Diana,
Yes, this statistic is pretty staggering. I was shocked as well. It does seem pretty extreme, but I guess vanity isn’t just reserved for us women! Ha! Glad you enjoyed the article!
Really????
To quote Alvin from the Chipmunks, “Shake what your mama gave ya” — he didn’t say shake what your plastic surgeon gave ya.
That’s indeed very funny Judy. But what if one gets laughed at while shaking what his mama gave him ? I wonder why can’t a man go for cosmetic body lift procedures like brazilian butt lift?. These procedures are not meant for women alone. Cosmetic procedures are basically meant to boost one’s confidence level and create a positivity. So if it brings about a better chance, then I think men should start thinking about it too.
