6.02.17 On This Date In 1938, Chicago’s Salvation Army named the first Friday in June National Doughnut Day in honor of the World War I volunteers who passed out doughnuts to soldiers. Women who distributed doughnuts to the servicemen were known as Doughnut Dollies.
