Tiny babies celebrate July 4 in red, white and blue
Advocate Children’s Hospital’s tiniest patients took part in an early Independence Day celebration in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where they wore red, white and blue outfits. The NICU is where the smallest and most fragile babies are cared for after birth.
Since these small but mighty babies are not able to spend their first Fourth of July at home with their family, this celebration gave parents an opportunity to make happy memories with their baby despite being in the hospital.
“At Advocate Children’s Hospital, we care for both medically complex infants who weigh less than a pound, known as micro-preemies, and larger, full-term babies,” says Dr. Brett Galley, a neonatologist. “This patriotic celebration brings joy and a sense of normalcy to the parents during an otherwise stressful time.”
