Hungry for healthy snack ideas? Check these out

“Snacks are an important part of a healthy balanced diet, especially after-school snacks,” says Megan Kochanek, a pediatric dietitian at Advocate Children’s Hospital. “Eating snacks may help overeating at dinner time or other meals.”

She recommends keeping healthy snacks on hand and at eye level for children. Otherwise, they will grab whatever is available, which may not be so healthy.

“Be a good role model and snack on the same foods you want your children to,” she says.

She recommends slicing vegetables or batch-making hard-boiled eggs to have them ready to go when you’re looking for a snack. Another tip: pair a protein and a produce (fruit/vegetable) at snack time to help fill hungry times just enough between meals.
