She kept helping, even when on leave
Being on maternity leave doesn’t mean you can’t help your fellow team members, and physical therapy assistant at Aurora Health Center in Two Rivers, WI, Holly Struck recognized that immediately.
“One of my favorite parts of my job is my excellent coworkers,” explains Struck. “When I saw the opportunity to help them out, I jumped at the chance.”
Though on maternity leave with her third child and generally being a busy mom of three young children, she managed to swiftly produce 18 fabric masks for team members to wear when they are not at the hospital or on duty.
“It was also an opportunity for my kids to help out: My 6 year old helped with the sewing and ironing and was shown the importance of helping others with the different abilities we all have,” Struck says. “My 2 year old enjoyed watching, and, well, my newborn slept.”
Struck’s supervisor Karen Schultz is in awe of Struck’s craftiness.
“Most of us would struggle to make just one mask,” says Schultz, “but Holly – on her maternity leave with a newborn and two other very young children at home – created beautifully crafted masks. We are so grateful!”
